Skyler stepped into the Training Gym, a large grin spread on the pale roundness of his face. His glaringly purple eyes seemed to glow in the light of the area, and he stepped up to the desk with a coy look on his face.
The woman behind the counter had brown hair, pulled up into a very business-like bun. She was wearing rectangular, black-rimmed no-nonsense glasses that made her face look boring, to say the least. Skyler tapped a rosy finger on the counter to get her attention, as she was typing manically on a computer keyboard.
"Yes?" She looked up at Skyler, her face prepared to be uninterested, but a look of shock spread across the woman's face as she saw the teen in front of her. Many people seemed to react that way. Shocking blue hair, completely unnatural, with a large bang of pale blond curled to cover one eye.
The eye that showed was such a vivid lavender that it put the brightness of a Roselia's flowers to shame. His face was very round, with shocks of pink on his pale eyelids, his nose, framing his cheeks and mouth.
Skyler snapped a pair of fingers on his gloved hand in front of the woman to stop her gawking.
"Stare later, Receptionist-Babe. I'm here for a battle, y'see?" She swallowed hard, nodding frantically before she stabbed quick fingers to the computer keyboard.
"Name?" She avoided looking up at him again. She hadn't been shocked by how attractive he was, no, but with all the bright colors to catch your eyes, how couldn't you stare?
"Skyler Effin' Raylyn." He gave her a wink, leaning on the desk to look at the woman closer. She looked up to ask another question, but was shocked by his vicinity.
"Uh, yes, yes. Just, go over there, they'll call you when it's your turn to battle." She pointed weakly to a few chairs by the wall, fighting to keep eye contact with the teen. He pulled his pink bottom lip between his teeth pensively, examining her face. The woman slowly looked back down to the keyboard, typing absently.
"Excuse me, Miss," Skyler reached out lightly, tentatively, moving the woman's chin up with his hand. "You should, like, totally lose the glasses. Librarian-chic just doesn't do it for ya'." He nodded sagely and released the woman's chin. He nodded again, then walked over to the chairs and sat down, waiting for his name to be called.
---------
His name had been called, all right. The receptionist (glasses-free, of course), had looked up, then spoke bleakly. "Skyler...Effin' Raylyn?" Skyler laughed loudly, then stood up, dusting off his bright red pants for no reason, and walked through the doors to the gym.
He swept his blond bang out of the way for a moment, to get a look around. It was larger than he had first thought it would be, and more people were sitting around to watch. "Alrighty then," Skyler cracked his fingers expertly. "Let's get this party started!"
The teen walked to his spot on the field, looking across the see that his opponent was already waiting. He looked like a model for a department store children's section.
Baseball cap! Obligatory T-shirt with a dinosaur! Cargo shorts! Super-Cool Air Pump Sneakers! This kid was rockin' the department store thing. He couldn't have been more than 9 or 10 years old.
"Yeah! Let's Go, Neon-Boy! I'll own you!" The Kid threw out a pet name for Skyler, before he whipped a hand to his belt and removed a minimized pokeball.
"Go, Disaster-Blaste-!"
The boy released his pokemon, an Absol, but didn't get to finish his sentence. Skyler was already laughing so hard that tears were streaming down his face.
"D-Distaster Blaster?" Skyler chuckled."You've got to be kidding me, right?" He shook his head, and with a flourish of his hand, a Pokeball had appeared in his grasp. The Kid, as Skyler would continue to think of him, gasped.
"You some kinda magician?" He seemed a bit angry that Skyler had laughed at his awesome Pokemon's name! It was. . . awesome! The Kid, meaning business now, turned his baseball cap backwards, and stood on the balls of his feet. He gave Skyler his best intimidating look. "Release your pokemon, Neon Boy! Let's see what kinda girly thing you have!"
Skyler nodded supremely before bowing low, with a gentlemanly flourish. All he needed was a cape and a top hat. Skyler brought the Pokeball in his hand to full size before he threw it, releasing his Pokemon.
"Carmen, Carmen! Let's give this Kid a show!" The Shiny Totodile appeared in a flash of light. She spun around expertly on one foot, before coming to a stop in a Beautiful Assistant pose; both hands on her hips, a winning smile in her face, and a Beautiful Assistant twinkle in her eyes.
The Kid giggled earnestly. "A sparkly twirly Totodile? That's what you've got?" He giggled louder, then looked over at the Referee, who had been watching the events quietly. "Let's start this!"
The Referee nodded, and spoke in a clear voice. "LET THE BATTLE: BEGIN!"
Skyler moved first, laughing as he did. With a dramatic pose and wave of his arm, he pointed at his Beautiful Assisant. "Carmen, give them your oh-so-viscious Leer, and then a Scratch attack!" The Magician was ready to go.
Carmen winked at the Absol in front of her before her face seemed to transform. All evidence of that keen personality melted from her face, like some grotesque wax sculpture in front of a fire. He grin turned into a snarl, teeth bared, sparkling and pointy.
She gave the Absol a look, and the Pokemon shivered, visibly. Carmen's charm raced back over her countenance, and she dashed forward on powerful legs, brandishing the claws on both of her hands, then jumping high and swiping them toward the Absol's face. The Totodile had twisted in the air so that when she came down, she would land facing forward on the Absol's back.
The Absol recoiled to let Carmen fall short, but didn't move fast enough, and she grazed his muzzle. Even so, the reptile fell onto her backside, and the Absol moved forward to give her a taste of his Scratch attack! Carmen didn't waste a second as Skyler called out to her.
"Carmen, Carmen, give him a bit of what you can do!" The Totodile turned on her butt so that her back wasn't to the opponent, then bent backwards from a sitting position and into a handstand before coming back to her feet.
The Absol's attack had barely missed. With a flourish of her Beautiful Assistant showmanship, she twirled and blew a kiss at the Disaster Pokemon!
The Kid spoke, having let his Pokemon attack without command the first time. "Give that ugly lizard a Leer! Then Scratch again, DB!" He threw a fist out, as if he knew the battle was won. Oh, how very wrong that boy was.
<Ugly?!> Carmen spoke in her calm voice, but she sounded shocked, and quite angry. <Buddy, you don't even know how ugly I can be!> Skyler laughed, hearing his assistant's angry tone at The Kid's words, and watched as Carmen countered the Absol's Leer with one of her own. Both defenses lowered, she raced forward, listening to Skyler's words.
"Go for the Assistant's Slide!" Skyler was beaming. The Shiny Pokemon slid under the Absol's legs, and brandished her claws, going to attack the Pokemon's belly.
The Absol jumped at The Kid's command, clear of Carmen's claws. He wasn't prepared, however, for her next maneuver. As he turned to Scratch the Totodile, she stopped his foot's claws with her own, countering him in a power struggle that she was sure to lose.
It shocked the Absol even more as she let him win, leaving the Pokemon fighting with thin air. The Absol fell to the ground, though his claws still managed to scrape Carmen's belly.
"Get 'im, Girlie!" Skyler was loving his Pokemon's tactics. The Totodile held up both hands of claws, and Scratched earnestly at the fallen Absol, who seemed to be getting fatigued.
Actually, Carmen was getting just as tired, but, a Great Assistant never shows when she's down! Carmen jumped back as the Absol righted itself, going to Scratch once more. It caught her completely before she could get out of the way, and she fell back.
Using her large tail to right herself, Carmen gave the Absol another Leer. Most of this battle seemed to be happening with much guidance from the trainers at all!
Carmen glared, the Absol winced, then returned her glare with a Leer of his own. Carmen stepped forward suddenly, boldly challenging the larger Pokemon. The Absol stepped back, strangely wary of the smaller opponent. Carmen smiled, and it was more of a sneer than anything. This Totodile was in battle mode.
"Carmen, go!" She lunged viciously at the Absol, catching him with two hands of claws clear across the face. He recoiled, disoriented from the sudden lashing out, and shook his head to get some of the pain to go away.
The Absol was looking weaker. He aimed a Scratch at her, but it missed almost completely without any help from Carmen's side.
The Kid looked stricken with turmoil. "No, DB cannot lose! Attack with all you've got!!" The Absol stood up tall for a moment on unsteady legs, giving his opponent a glare that seemed as if the whole battle depended on it.
He then jumped forward, forelegs outstretched in a Scratching lunge. Carmen rolled out of the way, letting the Pokemon pass before running her own claws along his flank.
Letting out a cry of pain, the Absol collapsed for a moment, then started to raise up on unsteady legs. Carmen huffed, her wounds were hurting, but she'd keep fighting as long as she needed to. The Absol was almost there, but looked so weary, he stood up completely, then fell down, defeated.
The Referee called out in his clear voice. "Distaster Blaster is unable to battle! Carmen and Skyler win!"
Carmen started to jump up and down and cheer, then thought better of it. Rather, she gave a majestic twirl on one foot, turned to her trainer and held up a hand, giving him a wink, then blowing the teen a kiss. Skyler returned the wink and airborne kiss with a smile. "Beautiful Assistant, how beautiful you are!"
The woman behind the counter had brown hair, pulled up into a very business-like bun. She was wearing rectangular, black-rimmed no-nonsense glasses that made her face look boring, to say the least.
