The air was warm and the sun shining through the clouds as an Eevee bounded towards the training gym, her trainer not far behind. The trainer a man in his very late teens and a pokemorph to boot, his head was hidden below a skull and his pokeranger uniform was caught by the breeze now and then. The pair seemed to get along even if the Eevee did bound freely away from him, often rolling around and fighting with invisible things that only she could see.
The ranger's voice rang out then addressing the Eevee, even as he continued towards the gym.
"Come on now, you need to save that for the real fight not now Tori." With a shake of his head and a chuckle he looked towards the Eevee, Tori, watching her roll back to her feet. She'd heard him and while she wanted to tumble she knew his words were for the best, still her tail was wiping around behind her in a frenzy of sorts.
A battle, that meant she could show off her skills and maybe learn something new. She could be stronger and maybe closer to her dream of becoming a Jolteon, looking up at her trainer she gave a strong nod and stalked over to him. In her excitement all her moves were like that of a predator hunting it's prey, her trainer however didn't mind it for now. She'd simply have to adjust to him and he to her, besides as a ranger he was meant to work with his pokemon and not force them to act as he wished.
Still he glanced down fondly at Tori, he'd only been given her recently but he was confident in her. Still looking at her he bumped into the gym's door, Tori yipped in amusement as he did and he chuckled as well.
"Oh don't you start, I was distracted by you." Shaking his head he opened the door, slipping quickly inside at the same time Tori did. She was growing even more excited now and her tail was whipping around even faster behind her, earning her a quick glance of concern from her trainer.
Letting her sniff around in her excitement her trainer went to the sign in desk and tapped on it, getting the attention of the man behind it. The man looking up into a skull and nearly falling out of his seat, recomposing himself he looked over the ranger before him.
"Can I help you ranger?" The man was staring at him, thinking to himself. Who in their right mind would wear a skull, it's not natural. Then torn from his thoughts as the ranger replied the man forced his eyes to move.
"Actually yes I'd like to train with my Eevee, Tori." The ranger wasn't fazed by the man's stare, it had happened so many times in his life he was used to it.
Although he was only used to it as he'd been helped through it by friends, smiling at the thought of his friends the ranger watched the men type something into the computer before glancing back at him for a moment and speaking.
"Ah I see, well could I have your name, Trainer ID and chosen partner." As he mentioned chosen partner he pointed to a whiteboard nearby, a range of pokemon available for sparring listed. The ranger turned to consider and let his eyes settle on something challenging, deciding in mere seconds who his foe would be.
With a glance to his Eevee who by now had finishing pestering those around them and was making her way to him, he replied to the man. Fetching out his ID and passing it to him as he spoke.
"Reyes Avara, Pokemon Ranger and I'd like to face Dragonair. Starter level if you could, just transferred from the main branch to the trainer branch of the rangers." He flashed the man a smile and saw his eyes widen as the man realised from his ID that the ranger before him was a pokemorph.
The man hesitated for a moment and handed back Reyes' ID, entering the needed information with a flurry off keystrokes and a nod.
"Very well, please proceed through to room five and enjoy your match. Your partner should be there and if not, she'll be there within moments." Glancing up at Reyes again with curiosity in his eyes as he finished, just what was this pokemorph before him he wondered.
Noticing the look Reyes shook his head softly and spoke as he felt Tori bump herself against his leg impatiently. Glancing down at her he nodded and he spoke quickly.
"That look of yours is normal, I'm a Marowak pokemorph. Try not to stare at my tail on my way out." He gave a chuckle and pointed towards the door they had to take for Tori's benefit, the Eevee bounding towards it with Reyes following her. The receptionist staring openly at Reyes' tail all the while.
As the pair entered the hallway leading towards the arena rooms, Reyes shook his head softly and sighed. Why did people always have to stare and make a big deal out of it? Shaking off his thought Reyes led his Eevee to the door of Room five and pushed it open, at the same time an attractive young woman came through the otherside. She hesitated a moment seeing him and looking for a moment before recovering and entering the room, although by then Tori had let forward with a yip of pure happiness and landed on Reyes' side of the battle court.
Nodding to the other trainer he slipped his pack off and moved behind Tori, ready for battle. The other trainer running a hand though her violet hair, her soft ice blue eyes looking over the ranger and pokemon before she spoke.
"I didn't realise I'd have the honour of battling a ranger and pokemorph today, I'm Alice. I'll be your opponent today with my partner Crys." As she said that she threw a pokeball into the air and from it a Dragonair materialised, a shiny as well.
Trying not to appear surprised by the shiny Reyes nodded softly looking her and the Dragonair over, then as his Eevee yipped at the Dragonair he answered.
"Nor did I realise I'd have the honour of such an attractive partner, still let's do our bests. I'm Reyes and this little bundle of fluff is Tori, let's begin shall we?" His words drew a blush from Alice and an annoyed yip from Tori.
<I'm no bundle of fluff! That's those giant furballs that look like sheep!> She shook her head and turned to the Dragonair. <I look forward to fighting you Crys!>
The Dragonair dipped it's head in a nod, answering Tori. <Your trainer was joking, it's something they do. Anyway I also look forward to facing you Tori, you've the right energy about you.>
Never trainer could understand their pokemon but they watched the exchange and when their pokemon assumed battle poses, they nodded to one another. The battle was beginning and it was time to be serious about it all, Alice's voice rang out first.
"Crys attack with Thunder Wave then get in close and use wrap!" Her pokemon nodded and went on the attack, soaring towards Tori with natural grace.
Mere moments later the Eevee began to dodge taking matters into her own hands, she wasn't waiting for her trainer and she was moving to evade the Dragonair. An action that drew a nod from Reyes.
"Good Tori, evade her for now. Wait until she launches the thunder wave and then when she tries to use wrap tackle your way out of it." The Eevee didn't respond but Reyes knew she'd listened as she started to change her direction to keep dodging, the Dragonair beginning to crackle with electricity as it went for her.
Tori kept dodging the Dragonair, keeping as silent as the other both focused on the attack. Then as she moved around the Dragonair she found it's tail waiting and grinned, waiting for the Dragonair to lash out with the thunder wave. She was working it so that if she dodged the attack then Dragonair would catch the edge of the Thunder Wave, hopefully throwing it off for a second when it tried to wrap her.
Then it came, the Dragonair loosed the Thunder Wave and Tori threw herself to the side, feeling it pass her as it clipped the Dragonair. Although the Dragonair didn't notice as it threw itself at her again aiming for a wrap, although both the trainer's could see it's movements were a little off. The suddenly Tori spun around to face the attacking Dragonair and launched herself straight into it's body, the blow strengthened by the Dragonair's movement and Eevee's leap.
The Dragonair fell to the ground winded and drew itself back up, eyeing the Eevee as it recovered for a few moments.
<Lucky blow, that was all.> It didn't know it's own attack had thrown it off and left it open to attack. Then as Alice considered what to tell the Dragonair next Reyes shouted out.
"Keep it up Tori, don't let Crys recover!"
Then as Tori threw herself forward again she tackled the Dragonair again and again, the Dragonair trying fruitlessly to dodge each attack.
"Crys counter it with Thunder Wave and Wrap!" Alice had come to her pokemon's rescue and it nodded weakly, it didn't have much fight in it now but it would fight until it fainted.
The Eevee hesitated seeing it readying another Thunder Wave and Reyes' spoke up.
"Tori, Crys doesn't have much left! The next tackle should end it, risk it or dodge the choice is yours!" Glancing up at Reyes Tori considered that and leapt forward moments later, she might end this paralyzed but she could win it in one more attack. So meeting Crys head on, the tackle and Thunder Wave collided. Both pokemon falling to the ground, the question was which would recover first.
Then both pokemon stirred, the Dragonair moving slowly on the floor. It could barely lift it's head, while on the other hand Tori struggled to her feet. Fighting off the effects of the paralyzing move, she looked at the other pokemon and then around them for a moment before the referee shouted out.
"Crys is unable to battle, the winner is Reyes and Tori."
As soon as that was said both Reyes and Alice rushed to their pokemon, Alice with a revive and Reyes to scoop up his Eevee carefully.
"How do you feel Tori? Do you need a Paralyze Heal?" Reyes was concerned but comforted when the Eevee shook it's head and rested in his arms, she just wanted to rest and recover naturally this time to give him a feel of her recovery. Both the pokemon and trainer were closer now.
Then looking to Alice and the recovering Crys, Reyes flashed them a smile.
"I really enjoyed this battle, thank you." Alice nodded to him and continued nursing her pokemon while mumbling a fuss back, then Reyes moved towards them and shifted Tori to one arm.
"Do you want a hand moving Crys?"
With a smile on her face Alice nodded and the pair gently moved the recovering Dragonair to somewhere more comfortable in the resident trainer lounge.
"Thank you for helping, hopefully I'll see you again here." Crys flashed him a smile and gave him a hug before returning to nursing Dragonair.
Reyes smiled at that and left then, not bothering the man on the desk. Although the man noticed him and spoke.
"So how did the battle go?" Then Reyes turned around and smiled faintly.
"I won but it was a challenge that needed a fast response from my Eevee." He smiled and rubbed Tori's neck softly, the Eevee simply enjoying the fuss as she relaxed in content. After all she'd had a good battle so she deserved her rest.
The ranger's voice rang out then addressing the Eevee, even as he continued towards the gym.
"Come on now, you need to save that for the real fight not now Tori." With a shake of his head and a chuckle he looked towards the Eevee, Tori, watching her roll back to her feet.
