"Welcome to Airore."
That was what the sign said. The strange, ragged mutated albino child was staring helplessly at it, reading it over and over as if hoping it might suddenly change to make all well again. His usually impressive rainbow coloured tail was hanging limply and lifelessly on the ground, covered in filth. The boy was scowling, pausing every now and then to wince and clutch his head. He had developed an unbearable headache from where he had struck his head when he was pulled through what he now believed to be a portal. Typically, it had disappeared, leaving him stranded here. He had walked for two days now, hoping to see some form of civilization where he could eat, drink, rest and figure out what had happened. But here he was. Back on the exact spot he had started on.
All of a sudden, a bulge in his shirt quivered. A tiny feathered form fell out, extending her little Tailow wings and fluttering to his shoulder. She nuzzled him effectionately. ~Don't worry, Connor. We'll find people eventually. We survived wilderness before, so why not again?~ she reassured him brightly, referring to the time they had lived in the forest. A frown crossed the boy's face, glasses slipping away from the red eyes they helped. He sighed. "But will we, Vivime? You're my daemon; what I feel, you feel. You're pretty parched right now, aren't you?" he moaned, swallowing with his dry throat. The Tailow daemon shook her head. ~Maybe so, but if you fly...~ she began, but was cut off as Connor shook his head violently.
"What, and get caught by Team Chaos? Not a chance!" he spat. Vivime became a larger, stronger Flying type; a Pidgeot. She flew up high, straining on the bond between human and soul and making them both cry out in pain. "Vivi... come down..." Connor groaned desperately, making a leap to catch her. The daemon shook her head, gritting her teeth- or beak- against the pain. She flew higher. Connor cried out. "All right, all right! I can't take that any more!" he yelled, leaping into the air beside his daemon and pushing the air below him with his magnificent pale wings. He quickly reached his favourite point to fly if he had to like now; just skimming the clouds. He spotted a blue scar cutting across the barren landscape. Pointing it out to Vivime, he swooped down, landing on it's bank and dunking his head under the water, taking huge gulps of cool revitalizing fluid. When he felt more than full, he took off again, this time in search of a town where he could hopefully seek shelter.
Eventually, he spotted a splash of colour against the usual shades of fields, forests and so on. He pulled his glasses off, feeling them slipping. Swiftly swapping them for his contacts, he made his way as close to the town as he dared before landing. No-one had seen him. Vivime became an Arcanine, fur standing on end as he chose the most deserted and dark alleyways he could find, Connor's bad eyesight making things rather hard for them. However, at least no-one had seen them. They had had enough of labs and tests for one lifetime.
Finally, Connor's eyes fixed upon the building ahead of him. He could hear laughter coming from it, and delicious smells. It smelt like some sort of Pokémon food, but when you'd gone two day without eating and were part Pokémon anyway... Connor's heart took a stab of desire. It would be comfortable in there, not to mention he'd be able to rest and eat. There was laughter, too; indications of a friendly building. His heart soared even more when he saw the huge fields filled with Pokémon; the people were kind enough even to help Pokémon out! Well, if Connor had to rest somewhere, it would be here. He walked up to the door, Vivime, still in her Arcanine form, padding protectively at his side. Although she knew that this was a nice person's place and not a nasty lab, she was still nervous. Connor himself bore no sign of emotion at the moment, unsure of how to show himself to the inhabitant for the first time. He reached out with a tired, dirty hand and rapped on the door. His other hand rested on Vivime's shoulder.
How ironic it was that they missed the sign. This building was a lab. However, a nice lab; Apple Blossom Lab.

The door opened to reveal a short woman with frizzy red hair that extended out from her head in a fluffy mass. Her eyes blinked rappidly behind her glasses as she looked Connor over. She had seen some pretty strange people come through her lab, but he was the first legendary Pokemorph she had ever met... if she wasn't mistaken those feathers were patterned in the same way as Ho-oh's. She shook her head slightly, disrupting her musings. Now was not the time to speculate. The poor boy looked rather haggard, and his pokemon quite defensive.
"Hello my dear. What have you been up to? You look like you just had a battle with a Charizard or something. Please come in." She stepped to the side so he could enter the building. "My name is Professor Apple Blossem. What can I do for you? Most trainers who come here are looking for their first pokemon, though I can see you have a powerful friend already." Her brows creased together worriedly. She would really like to offer the kid a good meal, but she didn't want to seem pushy. If he was running away from home or something, she would have to tread carefully.

Connor's eyes widened as he saw Professor Apple Blossom, and they scoured the empty spaces around her. Vivme hissed, and Connor let out a small scream. His daemon changed from an Arcanine, taking the form of a little Eevee and leaping to his chest, where he stroked her desperately, breath shaking. Vivime was yowling madly. Connor patted her on the head, holding her the closest she could get to him; his heart. He looked at Apple Blossom as though she had grown tentacles and a poisonous extra head.
"Where's... where's your... d-daemon?"
Connor stammered, Vivime beginning to cry. In his world, everybody had a deamon. Without one, you would be an empty shell without a soul. It would be like meeting someone with no head to meet someone with no daemon. No daemon, no life. Yet here this woman was, cheery, welcoming and perfectly healthy! And not a daemon in sight. How could this be? Connor couldn't even begin to suss it out. Vivime stopped whimpering, and looked over at Apple Blossom again. Giving a little wince at the lack of daemons, she spoke in a small voice. ~I think... Connor, I think she might just have a daemon.~ she said, squinting.
Connor's eyes widened even further, if that were possible. "Really? No, Vivime, she can't... I don't see..." he said, trailing off. Vivime looked up at him. ~Inside her. Her daemon is inside her!~ she grinned, tail wagging. Connor nodded. Vivime dropped to the floor as a Flareon as the albino 'morph walked up to Apple Blossom. She seemed a nice lady. He could imagine her with an Espeon daemon, or a Kangaskhan. He looked at her, tail swaying a little. "Now, I can imagine you're extremely confused. I have an explanation, but even I don't know most of it. Well, you see, I'm from another world."
He paused to let the professor react to that. He then continued. "In my world, we have daemons like my Vivime here. They are us, and we are them. I think you might know them by the name of 'souls'? Well, that's Vivime. My soul. Daemons can change shape until their human reached a certain age, then they stay in one shape which best suits the human's personality. They can talk, too, of course. There are other things, too. The worst crime known other than not letting a human and daemon be with each other is to touch another person's daemon. It'd be like intruding on everything they ever are or ever will be, like reading a scientist's top secret life's research before it's finished. And also, what happens to you is reflected in your daemon. Your feel pain, so do they. They die... so do you." he shot her a grim smile. That was daemons explained... now the tricky part.
"I have no idea if they have them in your world, but I'm a Pokémorph. When I was young, Team Chaos- an evil team- took me in their prison-like 'children's home' and kept me there. They eventually made me into a Ho-oh 'morph, which made me go into a coma for over a year and it still can be painful. I escaped, lived rough until I finally got home, then saw this strange portal thingy and woke up in this world two days ago." he concluded. Well, that was that. Now all that was left was the questions he knew would come. There was another thought on his mind, too; Apple Blossom had mentioned that people come here to get their first Pokémon. A Pokémon... Connor was considering getting one. It would sure come in handy, after all; protection and all sorts. Perhaps he should become a trainer; after all, it would be something to do.

"Where's... where's your... d-daemon?"
The Professor's bespectacled eyes widened in a bit of confusion. "My daemon?" The terminology escaped the woman, and her mouth opened and closed as she went to ask exactly what he meant. Her discomfort was halted, though, as Connor went ahead to explain. Apple Blossom listened intently to his words, a detached, scholarly smile on her face; the gears that made up her brain could practically be seen moving, just by the intense blankness that was her gaze.
After Connor had finished, the Professor nodded, once, twice, and a smile came to her face. "Well, that's amazing! Another world? Souls taking on a life and reacting to their owners' personality?" A scientific light flashed through the woman's eyes, revealing the hunger for knowledge that she often hid so well. I will just have to find more out about these daemons!
When Connor mentioned his status as a Pokémorph, Professor A.B. nodded. She had seen them before, though never one like him! "Yes, we do have Pokémorphs in Airore, and what happened to you because of Team Chaos, that's tragic." Though the phrasing of her sentence could have been taken as dismissive, the woman meant each and every word of it sincerely. Frowning, she shook her head, the jumble of auburn curls dancing about and coming to a stop as she tried to keep from falling into another pensive trance.
"Well, since you seem to be pretty sure that you want to stay in this world, would you like a Pokémon? We have a wide range of choices, and if you have an idea already, I can bring out a few candidates for your viewing." The warm smile danced across her countenance again, and she looked at Connor expectantly.

Connor nodded, smiling. A Pokémon... that would be fantastic. A great offer he could hardly refuse. A life as a trainer... that would be good. Yes, perfect. He would get his very own starter Pokémon, and then he'd be off on great adventures. Vivime flicked her tail, rather excited. She had often thought that being a trainer would be a good idea, and at last that would be true. They would have such adventures, Connor, herself and their Pokémon! They'd conquer gyms, travel routes, meet all sorts of new and exciting creatures. Finally, something good would come of their lives. They were getting back on track.
Connor spotted what seemed to be a list of the starter Pokémon on the wall. Hm... Eevee appealed to him, but then again, Eevee didn't have the greatest of movesets and they were so popular he guessed a lot of people would choose them. No, he would take a Fire type. He was a Ho-oh Pokémorph, and he would take a Pokémon of his favourite element. He smiled as he looked over the various Pokémon listed there that were of the Fire type.
So his options were a Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, and a Pokémon he hadn't met before named Emcub. Wait- there was an October exclusive Pokémon that was Fire type; Growlithe. Charmander, although evolving into part Flying types, were known to be quite stubborn, and, when they evolved, weren't too first on the ground. Perhaps not a Charmander, then. As for Cyndaquil, they were cute, and Typhlosion were cool. Possibly. Torchic... well, them, as with Chimchar, just had something about them which Connor didn't like. And Emcub looked all right, but he wasn't familiar with the species, so didn't want to take the risk. After all, it could turn out to be terrible.
That left Cyndaquil or Growlithe. He could always ask to see one of both, but... no, that wouldn't seem right. He wanted to narrow his choice down to one species, so he could then pick one from that species based on their personalities. Cyndaquil evolved fairly quickly, but they weren't the strongest of Pokémon, from what he had seen. However, Growlithe had a fairly good moveset, and although it'd cost money to buy the Fire Stone to evolve it and he'd want it to learn good attacks first, he felt it'd be worth it. They were strong, and Arcanine was loved by many cultures as the 'legendary' Pokémon, and were very fast indeed. Also, shiny Arcanine were a very cool golden colour. So, that was settled. He would choose a Growlithe. "Could you show me some Growlithe, please? If you have a shiny, I'd be interested in seeing that, too." he said with a smile. Vivime became a smaller Eevee, pawing the ground nervously.

The Professor smiled brightly. "Of course! Wait right here, I'll be back in a moment," she replied. Professor Apple Blossom began making her way through the confines of the lab, just barely containing her pent-up energy of having discovered something "new." Arriving at a file cabinet, she opened up one of the drawers, rifled through it for a moment, and with a mutter of "Who the heck organized this?" she pulled out four red and white spheres.
Pushing the release buttons on each, the Poke Balls opened up, and let loose with bursts of light, which quickly transmuted into four Growlithe, two males and two females.
The first male was a peppy little Pokemon, bouncing around the limited free space of the lab. His golden coat shone in the white lights as he dashed chaotically around. Locking his eyes on Connor and Vivime, he bounced up, gave an excited little yip, inspected both, and proceeded to run around the albino's legs.
The second male was much more passive, but not for lack of enthusiasm. The second Growlithe was engaged in a miniature brawl with the first female. At first it appeared that they were equally matched, the male countering the female's speed with his strength, but the female, being slightly smaller and more agile, eventually proved triumphant. A fact she punctuated by challenging him to another duel, which her opponent gladly accepted.
The last female had curled up next to Apple Blossom's feet. She let out a wide yawn, licked her shimmering fur, and promptly set about taking a nap, though it was interrupted when the brawlers came to close and accidentally snagged her tail. She growled halfheartedly at the pair, and returned to dozing.
The Professor smiled again. Hopefully Connor, though he had asked to see any shiny Growlithes, would choose one based on personality. There was something to be said about people and Pokemon who went solely on appearances after all.

Connor smiled at the sight of the Growlithes. Ah, Fire types. So cool, flowing, awesome, powerful, beautiful... not to mention they used fire. OK, maybe he was slightly biast, being a Fire type himself, but in his opinion, they were the best type, closely followed by Flying types. Growlithe were dog Pokémon, something Connor took fancy to. They evolved with a Fire stone, but Connor thought he'd wait until his starter was at level thirty-whatever to evolve it, for by that time it would have learned the move Flamethrower.
Anyway, onto taking a look at the Pokémon. Ignoring their colourings, he looked into their personalities. The first Growlithe made him smile as he ran about. Aw, he was a pretty fun, energetic little guy. Connor quite liked cheery little hyperactive Pokémon, however annoying they could get. So this little guy was definately in the 'yes' pile. But what about the others?
The other male Growlithe... Connor wasn't so keen on. He appeared to have an agressive nature, something which didn't appeal so much to Connor. The 'morph didn't believe in attacking everything that moved, he'd only fight if that was what was wanted. The Growlithe also appeared to be both determined and thick. Determined because he'd started another fight, but thick because it was with the same Pokémon he'd just lost against, and he'd still be tired. He was a no, then.
The third Growlithe, despite her agressive nature, seemed all right. She looked more intelligent, and was strong, too. Tought despite her size. She'd beaten the other, larger, Growlithe, meaning she was a hardy thing. She would go to the 'yes' pile along with the first Growlithe, too, then.
Now, the last Growlithe. She seemed friendly enough, and certainly very docile and relaxed, but she was perhaps too relaxed. She was lazy, something that wouldn't do out there in the big wide world, and she hadn't really taken enough care when the two fighters had caught her tail. A mere growl would't do much; it was as if she almost wasn't bothered to move. No, she was out.
That just left the happy energetic Growlithe and the fighting female. He considered these two aloud, so that Vivime might know. "Vivi, I'm thinking of picking either the energetic one or the fighting female." he told her. She nodded; those seemed good to her. Connor went on, "Now, let me think... the energetic one seems very happy, and friendly too; always good when you first get a Pokémon. The brawler might not be so friendly, more reluctant to obey. I can see that the female is also a strong Pokémon, but hopefully the male's hyperactivity would give it more energy, too... I guess that now I've weighed out the pros and cons, I think I'd like to take the energetic male Growlithe, please." the boy said with a grin, shivering in excitement as he pointed to the Pokémon sniffing about. He was about to start his new life in this new world. A clean plate.

The Growlithe at the albino's feet began yipping and barking again, excited to have been chosen! At last he was leaving the cramped lab to run free in the fresh air! He raced around Connor's feet once more, seemingly not tiring, giving off joyous yips every couple of laps.
Professor A.B. giggled a bit, then turned around and reached into another drawer. She pulled out several items, which she somehow managed to form into the usual starter kit for new trainers. And for the cherry on the ice cream sundae, A.B. pulled out the Growlithe's Poke Ball and presented the pack and ball to Connor.
"Here you go, your starter kit and Growlithe's Poke Ball," she said. She looked at Vivime for a moment. "Considering you have Vivime, I guess I really don't need to tell you to take care of this little guy." The Professor looked fondly at the puppy Pokemon.
"But I'll say it anyway. You three take care on your new journey!"
Congratulations! Connor received a Growlithe and a Starter Pack!
