Hinote the shiny Growlithe vs Cranidos
Goal: 9 levels
A puppy raced about his trainer, yipping excitedly. This was his first battle, and he was very pleased and proud of the fact. He had a trainer. He was a Pokémon in training to beat the elite! And he would do that, oh, yes, he'd be sure of it! He'd work hard with his trainer, however, strange he was! Barking in joy as he skidded through the carpet of fallen leaves, he bounded over to his trainer, who was waiting a little way ahead. He liked Connor. He had a nice smell; a very unusual one, one he didn't think he'd ever smell in this entire world. It was warm, like fire, with a nice sweet tinge and a fresh hint to it. He breathed it in, then padded over to the other creature at his trainer's side. Vivime, he believed her name was.
Vivime was odd, too. Connor was an albino, and had cool wings and a crest and feathers, and Vivime was an albino, too. Connor had said she was his soul. At first, Hinote had thought this was metaophic, but it turned out to be literally. Vivime was his daemon, and they came from another world. So not to creep anyone out, she had agreed to pretend to be an ordinary Pokémon, here with her trainer. An Eevee, a form she was comfortable in, resting in her human's arms. Up ahead, the battle arena came into view. Connor was a little nervous, and felt a thrill of butterflies awaken in his stomach. He chewed his lip as he approached. The opponent was already there, waiting, a Pokémon standing patiently in the battle area. A Cranidos, no doubt revived from a fossil. No matter.
Connor nodded, and the golden furred Growlithe leapt forwards, grinning and barking a greeting. Cranidos' eyes narrowed, and he pawed the ground in a threat. Hinote whimpered, stepping back. Connor gave him an encouraging smile, and he grew a little braver, a growl in his throat. He was ready to fight! He could do this! Well, he hoped he could do this, anyway. Connor coughed. Vivime spoke to him in Pokéspeak. ~Cranidos won't know any Rock type moves, but he'll know Headbutt, a powerful move, so be careful.~ Connor gave a barely noticeable nod, and looked at his opponent. A stocky built, the tough trainer had clearly fought before. Connor wasn't afraid, though. He knew that anything was possible if he tried. "Hinote, use Bite!"
Hinote's fur bristled in a mixture of anticipation and excitement. This was it. His first battle. In the Training Gym. He'd gain plenty of levels already! This would be exciting, and he definately didn't want to miss a single moment of it. The awesomeness, the tension, the excitement, the learning. He didn't even mind if he won or lost, although winning would probably be best because it would earn him nice happy levels. He liked levels. They'd make him happy and, above all, stronger and closer to being the best he could be. Giving his jaw an experimental gnash, a smile crossed his cream muzzle. He raced forwards, faster than the adverage Growlithe thanks to his strangely high hyperactivity levels, jaws wide ready to clamp down on an ancient Pokémon.
The other trainer scowled. Bite was almost as strong as his Cranidos' attack, Headbutt, and it was much quicker so would be harder to dodge. Well, he'd find some way to do this. When there was a will, there was a way, after all. The trainer scratched his chin, wondering what he could do. Was there a way to, with his two basic moves, defeat Hinote? He wasn't sure. Well, there was usually a way to put a stop to these things, after all. If Hinote was hit in the jaw, that might work. Yes, that would be adequet for the battle. Cranidos would easily be able to do that, and Hinote would be hurt. He smirked. This would be a nice, easy battle. The freak on the other end of the arena was a noob, and would be steamrolled. "Cranidos, Headbutt." he said almost lazily.
The Rock type, however, did not know of the strategy. In his confidence, the other trainer had forgotted to mention that. Because of this, Cranidos did not time his attack to hit the muzzle of the Growlithe. The dinosaur Pokémon assumed it was the usual attack after the opponent, and so waited to attack after the opponent. He attempted to move out the way, but the orange and black dog was on his before he could take more than a step or two. The teeth were pinching in on the tough skin of his arm, and he roared in pain, trying to shake Hinote off; however, he was too large, and his claws were dug into the ground to make his hold secure. Cranidos chose then to use his attack, Headbutting Hinote off his arm. The force drove them both backwards, but, of course, Hinote came off worse, having had the pain of Cranidos ramming his head into him. He whimpered, hoping Connor didn't mind.
Connor didn't. "That's all right, Hinote! Don't worry, you're doing fine!" he called. To be honest, he was glad he'd had a hit on Cranidos. He didn't mind whether or not Hinote was hit, or whether he fainted, even- just so long as he enjoyed himself and grew more experienced. After all, we learn from our mistakes; the whole point of History lessons in school. Connor smiled. School. He was glad he'd not been. His knowledge was great as it was, and he was very good in the Pokémon field, a reason why he'd become a trainer. Now, to seek out a weakness. His eyes turned to Cranidos' tail for that part. It was blue, like his head, indicating tougher skin. But why did it need to be tough there? After all, Cranidos didn't learn attack which used their tails. No, this could mean the thick skin was there for protection rather than attack. Protection was needed, of course, over weak spots. "Hinote, Bite as hard as you can on the tail!" he called.
If Hinote had fingers, they would be crossed for good luck. The golden furred Growlithe growled, tail low, ears back, teeth bared. A warning sign to Cranidos. This wasn't an attack of any sort, it was more of the Growlithe's fighting instincts kick in and make him try and appear extremely threatening, as though he would defeat Cranidos in one easy bite. His tail flicked to one side as he took a slow step forward, bristling fur making him appear larger than he really was. Slowly he stalked Cranidos, making him think he was going to be a slow attacker this time, before he raced around the Pokémon, making him spin as he tried to keep track of where Hinote was, before the dog lunged in for the attack.
The other trainer's smile had vanished. He was not too pleased. Why was the freak pleased with his Growlithe? The stinking brat had been hit, he hadn't even avoided it! He knew that he was annoyed at Cranidos. The Pokémon hadn't used the strategy! Why not? That wasn't very cool, not cool at all! He glared at his Pokémon as Hinote began circling him. Well, not to worry. Cranidos was the brawn, and he was the brains. They would win, they always did and always would. After all, such a pathetic whimpy rookie would always fall behind the mighty trainer and his Cranidos! He snarled. What was Hinote playing at? Was he trying to play a game? Well, play time was over, little cub! His smile was back as he ordered the next attack. "Cranidos, use a Headbutt and Leer. This won't take long." he said, waving a hand matter-of-factly.
Cranidos pawed the earth nervously as Hinote approached, watching him intently. Any moment now, he would attack, right? He wanted to know what that was, or he'd be dog meat. He watched, and it seemed that the Growlithe wasn't actually moving any faster. Oh, it seemed like he was safe, then. Thank goodness. He sighed, but kept watching the Fire type. Then, all of a sudden, he moved about really quickly! Spinning around on the spot, Cranidos couldn't keep up. He became dizzy and stumbled, trod on his own foot, fell, and felt Hinote's jaws pinch his tail. Screeching in agony, he yowled, trying to use Headbutt. Unfornately, he was still disorientated and didn't realize that the attack's damage had been dealt and Hinote had left until too late, and by then he'd struck his own tail with the attack. Now very weak indeed, he used that Leer on Hinote to a nice rate of success.
Connor smiled, his pale lips wide and his red eyes sparkling in joy behind their clear contacts. The 'morph was happy. This world might be new and strange, but it was full of exciting adventures just waiting to happen. He was pleased with Hinote's amazing efforts so far, and was glad that they had established a bond between them already, unlike what the other trainer and Cranidos had achieved. That was an advantage, too. This trainer was the sort who thought that the only advantages were the type advantages, levels, things like that. Well, he was wrong. Horribly wrong. Friendship, companionship, that was an advantage too. The one who thought that their Pokémon were nothing more than tools would always loose. Because of this, Connor knew they could win. "Hinote, use Bite! You know where!" he called.
Hinote smiled, dragging a silky furred paw along the ground gently. He was pleased, too, with his efforts. Unlike Connor, he had no inkling as to what the outcome of this fight would be, but this was all very exciting, and he loved it. The energy, the emotion, the feeling of pride. It was all wonderful, and he could lap it up from the big pool of battle any day. Well, he could finish this now, he could. He made an 'uff' sound, wagging his bushy cream tail furiously. This couldn't be translated as anything, for it was simply an expression of emotion. The Growlithe gave a yip, then ran towards the Cranidos. One last time, right? He'd finish this fight now! He wondered what gaining levels felt like. That curiousity drove him onward, even faster.
The other trainer yowled, stamping his foot like a temper tantrum from the age of the terrible two's. He moaned, and angry, defeated sound. "Come on, Cranidos! Just attack the opponent, not you! It's not that hard!" he spat. His face was red, expression livid with hard fury. He was not a happy bunny. Well, obviously, but yeah. He wasn't pleased, in short. He'd become a trainer because he'd been told that it would be good for his anger issues, and that stroking a Pokémon was calming. However, he seemed angry now. He really did have anger issues, and it was a good thing he was a trainer so he could have Cranidos take out his anger for him. Presently, he was ready to call out the order for his next attack, one which would hopefully have the shiny out. "Headbutt!" he called.
Cranidos did exactly that. As Hinote came for him, he lunged. The Growlithe tried to dart sideways to safety, but it was no use. Cranidos caught the Pokémon's flank, and he sailed through the air. His weakened Defense stat didn't help, either. Hinote yowled in pain as he landed awkwardly on his side, but he was back up on his feet in seconds. No. He wanted to gain levels, to know what it was like, to feel what it was like to bathe in victory! He was determined. He would not, nay, could not, fail his trainer. Leaping forwards with an angry snarl, he was so quick Cranidos couldn't move in time. He siezed the Pokémon's thick tail in his jaws, hardly hearing the cry of pain. The Pokémon wasn't defeated yet, though. He needed to do something more. Well, Cranidos had thrown him twice, so perhaps he'd like to see what it was like. Hinote tossed Cranidos away, and the Rock type landed, moaning, and didn't move.
Hinote was amazed, and barked joyfully. He had won, he had actually won! He breathed in deeply as he felt a new strength surge through him, his muscles growing stronger, his brain more adept to think to attack. So, that was what it was like to earn levels. That was fantastic. He should do that more often. Connor raced over, embracing him tightly. "Hinote, you did it!" he said, ruffling the fluff in between his ears. He licked Connor's face effectionately, before his trainer turned to shake his opponent's hand. His opponent glared at him, Cranidos returned, before walking off, leaving Connor's hand to drop. He shrugged, moving on. It was time to train his next Pokémon, Nox.
Nox the Staybleye vs shiny Dragonair
Goal: 6 levels
Connor was now walking alongside an extra Pokémon as well as Hinote. The Growlithe had been put in a good mood from the levels he'd gained, and was trotting about cheerily. The other Pokémon was striding alongside him, smiling in a superior manner but saying nothing. This was Nox, a Staybleye. His eyes glittered in the remaining light, the diamonds on his face hard to follow as to where they were pointing. Presently, he was looking ahead, to the painted lines of an arena. His last trainer had been a bit strange; she was afraid of him! She'd preferred the cute Pokémon. Well, she could suit herself. Nox was perfectly happy with his new trainer, he thought to himself as he stood before his opponent, a charming, gracefull young woman who released a Dragonair.
Connor nodded, admiring the rare Pokémon. Wow, she was lucky. Dragonair were extremely rare themselves, and this one... well, it was relatively obvious that she was a shiny, with her glimmering scales pink rather than blue. No matter. Just because a Pokémon was a shiny, it didn't mean that they would be any easier or harder to beat. They were the same as an ordinary Pokémon, just a different colour. Like him. Just because he was an albino didn't mean he was different on the inside. Well, at least it didn't in his own universe, before he'd been 'morphed. Anyway, the battle. Dragonair were agile, and so he'd have to be careful. This one, by the levels, would have only Wrap as an offensive move. "Start off with Scratch!" he called.
Nox nodded, hearing the opposing trainer call out something, too, to her own Pokémon. He looked at Dragonair. The Pokémon was an interesting species. A snake, yet reknown for their beauty. Well, he wasn't known for his looks, but what did that matter? He saw the long, curving body ripple with energy as she slithered over towards him, head always raised at his height above the ground. She rose to her normal height. She was so large... as big as Connor, she was! Nox couldn't help but whimper, before reminding himself that however big this Pokémon was, she had similar stats to him. That cheered him up a bit, and he moved in to Scratch. He was fairly wary; Dragonair allowed him to attack, snarling in pain as it did so, but before he could feel proud, he was swept off his feet in a Wrap attack.
Connor sucked in his breath. Uh-oh. That wasn't generally too good when that happened. Well, he couldn't just stand here and do nothing, now, could he? However weak an attack Wrap was, it was still an attack and it was draining Nox's energy, plus it was keeping him from using a Scratch again. What could he do? There had to be something. Perhaps a way to trick Dragonair into loosening her grip to allow him to slip his hands out? Or perhaps he could use an attack which didn't require movement, and would with any luck make her instinctive reflexes force her to drop him. "Nox, use Leer and then Night Shade!" he called, praying this would work.
Nox summonded up all the courage he had, ignoring the pain and glaring up at Dragonair. His daimond like eyes pierced hers, mkaing her shudder in fear. Good, that was just the reaction he was hoping for. That meant that this was working, the Leer attack was lowering her Defense stat nicely. Satisfied, the Stableye's eyes darkened, and a dark force radiated from his claws. The dark purple hands emitted a Night Shade attack, and Dragonair cried out in pain, dropping Nox. He was free. Excellent. He wrang his wrists, smiling slyly. He could attack Dragonair now, and she was nicely weakened, too. Good. Everything was starting to fall into place. However, a streak of electricity leapt from Dragonair, paralyzing him; a Thunder Wave.
Connor smiled, too. It had worked! Vivime, as an Eevee on his shoulder, yipped in joy, her white fur that matched Connor's hair puffed up against the cold, her red eyes that matched Connor's eyes sparkling in joy. They were going to win their second battle, of course they were! She knew Connor, and he could do this. After all, if brain beats brawn, then surely brain add brawn could do anything together. Connor felt that, although he was still not the most loyal Pokémon in the world, Nox was a good companion and warming up to him, if a little slowly. He knew they could make it through this. Hopefully all would go well. Hopefully. Nox was paralyzed, but they could still do this none the less. He was rooted to the spot, so couldn't do much, though. "Leer!"
Nox forced himself to smile. A Leer didn't require much movement, so that was easy enough to use while paralyzed. Thank goodness Connor hadn't asked for a Scratch, or he'd be disappointed. Nox then glared at Dragonair, allowing all his bad emotions to flow into this one look. It was even scarier and more effective than last time, and Dragonair cringed, shrinking back. However, her trainer yelled something. It was in an encouraging tone, and Dragonair seemed more confident because of it. Once more, Nox felt himself leave the ground, although this time, there was nothing he could do about it. He didn't really like that so much; his fury, his anger, was very obvious and clear for all.
Connor was pleased that Nox was angry. That determination, that spark, that fire of want, of need- that could be enough to get Nox to deliver a final blow. Now Dragonair had been hit twice, and her Defense was weakened considerably, she would most likely go down from that one more attack. He was determind to make use of Nox's emotions and deal the big ending blow. He knew the Stableye could do it. He had it in him; all that was needed was to let it out. That could be done, he knew it could be. All it took was just a little effort, and the impossible could become possible. This was possible, of course it was. It just took firey spirit. "Nox, use Scratch!"
Nox blinked in surprise, and heared the other trainer laugh from somewhere. A Scratch? If he was able to do such a movement, he'd have wriggled out of Dragonair's grip by now. No, didn't Connor see? He was stuck, and Dragonair would easily be able to defeat him now. He was so determined, though! He desperately wanted to win! He couldn't fail, not now, not because of a petty, trivial thing like a status condition! With a strange roar, he ripped his arms from Dragonair's coils and, with a tremendous effort, sent all his adrenalin, all his fury, tears and heartbrake down in a single blow. He landed neatly on the grass; Dragonair let go as she landed not so neatly on the ground a few steps away, fainted.
Nox punched the air, grinning, his trainer holding him in the air in joy. They laughed. They had done it! After shaking hands with his opponent in good sportsmanship, Connor watched as she returned her Dragonair and headed off on her own way. He did the same. His time training was over for now, and it was time to continue his journey.
