Paul Begins his Quest

There was a ship sitting sail for the Airore Region. On board was a young man of 15 years old. He was quite tall for his age and he had lavender colored hair. He was staring at a picture of himself at the Sinnoh league, where he had come in the top ten. In the picture it showed him standing with all his Pokemon. There was an Electabuzz, Honchkrow, Weavile, Ursaring, Magmortar and of course, Torterra his very first Pokemon.

Paul remembered when he had first got his Torterra, when it was just a Turtwig, from Professor Rowan. But of course after losing to Ash Ketchum in the Pokemon League, Paul felt like he just had to start over, and then released all his Pokemon back into the wild. All but one, his Torterra. He couldn't stand saying good bye to the grass type, so he left Torterra with his brother Regi.

Right before leaving for Airore though, Professor Rowan had up graded Paul's Pokedex for all the new Pokemon he was going to see in the Airore Region. Paul saw land ahead of him. He put the picture back into his pocket. He went to his cabin room, and got his things. He thanked the captian for the ride as the ship landed in the Haven Area.

Paul, then left the ship carrying his sag over his shoulder. He looked around for the A.B.Labs. He asked someone where it was at and they pointed the lab out to him. He then walked down the road and up to the lab's doors and rung the door bell.

At the buzzing sound of the doorbell, Professor AB looked up. Ah, someone was here for a new Pokémon! She smiled to herself; people had been coming for starters a lot recently. The woman walked up to the door, then opened it, smiling at the tall boy in front of her. His eyebrows were pretty prominent, she thought, but then again so was her hair. By the looks of him, he'd been on this kind of journey before. Ah, lots of trainers found it fun to deposit all their Pokémon into their PCs and start again when they'd finished in a region.

"Hello, and welcome to AB Labs. I'm Professor Apple Blossom, or AB for short. Please, do come inside." she smiled kindly, waving a hand to invite Paul in. She stepped inside the lab too, her smile never faltering. She seemed like a pretty friendly person who didn't mind other people, overlooking their flaws and whatnot. "Well, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you that big question; what Pokémon would you like?" she asked, flicking a stray lock of frizz behind her shoulder.

Paul stood there until the door opened,"It's about time," he said sounding just as rude as Jamie had eariler,"Hello, and welcome to AB Labs. I'm Professor Apple Blossom, or AB for short. Please, do come inside." she smiled kindly, waving a hand to invite Paul in. "Hn," Paul repiled as he entered the lab, the Professor right behind him. "Well, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you that big question; what Pokémon would you like?" She told him. Paul thought it over remembering his Torterra, he said,"I'd like a Turtwig please."

Professor AB felt she might recognise Paul from somewhere... but where? When he mentioned that he would like a Turtwig, it clicked and she smiled. Aha! She had seen him on TV a couple of times; a couple of his battles in the Sinnoh league had been televised. He'd had a Torterra then, hadn't he? This made her frown. If he was going for a Turtwig again, surely that was rather boring? After all, where was the adventure in choosing the same Pokémon? She felt he might prefer to go on a different journey to last time, to be more adventerous.

"I'll show you a couple of Turtwigs, but would you like me to show you any more Pokémon? After all, it's good to see a variety of different Pokémon to be sure you get the best one for you. All right? We have Pokémon similar to Turtwig; take Bulbasaur, for example. Or perhaps something completely different, say Chimchar or something." AB suggested, pulling out two Pokéballs. She released them, revealing a male and female Turtwig who for now did nothing other than stand there, blinking in surprise.

Paul kinda blinked,"I'll show you a couple of Turtwigs, but would you like me to show you any more Pokémon? After all, it's good to see a variety of different Pokémon to be sure you get the best one for you. All right? We have Pokémon similar to Turtwig; take Bulbasaur, for example. Or perhaps something completely different, say Chimchar or something." AB suggested. And then Paul acted like he was mad when she mentioned Chimchar. He remembered that Chimchar that he used to have that was so weak that he couldn't do anything with him,"No!" He screamed at her, losing his temper,"Not Chimchar!" The Professor then pulled out two Pokeballs releasing two Turtwigs. Paul looked over both of them trying to decide which one was stronger. Of course he had learned from his battles with Ash not to release a Pokemon if it was weak, he could train it up to be strong. But as he looked over them the male seemed stronger. But it also seemed weak as well. He looked up Charmander and saw it evolved onto a powerful dragon,"Hmm, maybe that could work," he said making up his mind he asked to see a Charmander.

Professor AB smiled as Paul asked to see a Charmander. Ah, something different! It was always good to keep yourself with a lot of choices, and when picking a starter if you only gave yourself one option there wasn't as much chance you would find the Pokemon that was right for you. Plus choosing too different species meant more variety. It was never fun to just repeat the same thing over and over, be it Pokemon journies or even films. Anyway, he wanted to see a Charmander. "Sure, I'll show you one." AB answered.

Moving over to the drawer, she took out a Pokeball and released it. The Charmander emerged from the flash of red light that followed, sniffing the air curiously. He then smiled a smug, almost sarcastic smile at Paul, before moving over to the Turtwigs. He gave one a playful shove, moving the Grass type a couple of metres or so backwards. The Turtwig squealed in fright and alarm, and the Charmander chuckled, folding his arms confidently. He seemed tough, but very full of himself and not too friendly.

Paul grinned at the Charmander's strengeth. Feeling good about his choice he told AB that he would be going with Charmander. He returned Charmander to his Pokeball and attached the ball to his belt. He then took out his Pokedex so that it could be updated to allow info on Airore's Pokemon. He handed his Pokedex to her to be updated.

Professor AB updated Paul's Pokédex with the few Airore exclusive Pokémon, before returning it to the boy and returning the Turtwigs to their Pokéballs, which she then put back in the drawer. Right, the kid had made his decision. All he needed now was for her to hand over the Pokéball and his starter items and he could be off.

Not bothering to return Charmander so that Paul could get to know the lizard if he wanted to, the Professor took a selection of standard starting items and handed them over to Paul along with the Pokéball. Now he had everything he needed to start off his journey in the Airore region, which was probably a good thing. Well, definately a good thing. The Professor smiled to him as it was time for him to leave. "Goodbye, and good luck in the Airore region!" she waved him out.

"Goodbye, and good luck in the Airore region!" The Professor says handing Paul his items and updatting his Pokedex. "Charmander return!" Paul called out, returning Charmander right away, proving Professor AB wrong about him. Paul then gathered up his things and left for Route 1.
